Scholarships

START HERE: All students must apply to TMLA online prior to exploring scholarship opportunities.

There are two types of scholarships offered by TMLA for incoming students:

  1. Academic Merit-Based and
  2. CSJ Scholar Incentive Service Awards
Please Note:

  • Students who are eligible will receive either the Academic Merit-Based Scholarship, OR the CSJ Scholar Incentive Service Award, but not BOTH.
  • There is no fixed amount of rewards given each year; award amounts and numbers of recipients will change year to year based on our endowment as well as the strength of that year's applicant pool.
  • Students who receive an award will learn on 1/15 along with their admissions decision.
  • Scholarships are awarded for all four years of high school, but may be rescinded if the student does not maintain an 85% average.
Academic Merit-BasedScholarships

TMLA is proud to offer academic merit-based scholarships to select incoming students. This is different from financial aid, and may be used in combination with financial aid (for those who qualify for both).

The Process:
  • Based on feedback received from our community, as of 2024 there is no longer a separate application and test to qualify for this type of scholarship.
  • Instead, all students who apply to TMLA will be automatically considered for a partial, half, or full merit-based scholarship IF they meet one of the two entrance criteria below:
    • 1) Student takes the TACHS exam (ID #016) and lists TMLA as either choice #1 or #2. (Note: a higher preference is given to students selecting us as #1.)
    • 2) If the student did not take the TACHS exam, they must upload their New York State Exam scores for Grade 7 to their application for admission.

The following items are considered when awarding scholarships:

  • Student's grades from Grade 7, and most recent Grade 8 report card (with a focus on the averages for core content grades in the following subjects: ELA, Math, Science, and Social Studies/Humanities)
  • Top percentile scores on standardized tests
  • Personal statement indicates a strong preference for TMLA

CSJ Scholar Incentive Service Awards

The mission of the Sisters of St. Joseph is to be a life -giving force in our communities. We offer CSJ Scholar Incentive Service Awards to students who exemplify this commitment to service in their parish and/or community.

The Process:
    1. An evaluation from an adult supervisor attesting to the candidate’s service activities and involvemen
    2. An essay describing your service, how it made a positive impact on your community, and how you will bring this service-oriented mindset to TMLA.
