From March 23rd through March 25th our Robotics Team, the Steampunk Penguins, competed in the FIRST Robotics Competition Long Island Regional at Hofstra University. The team and their robot, Sister Jane Fritz, competed in 10 matches; going 5 and 5 and ranking 27 out of 47.
They were led by a driven team of sophomores Co-Captain Serena Bazile, Gianna Imbriano, Camryn Ortutay, and senior Elena Raiford.
The team would like to shout out battery manager: sophomore Jessica D'Asaro; safety captains: senior Clare Barry and freshwoman Zahara Manigat; technicians and coders: juniors Isabella Benedetto and Erika Yick, and senior Nicole Mak; and strategist and Co-Captain: sophomore Hanna Vojar. The team would like to thank juniors Angelina Concepcion and Angelina Perez and freshwoman Nithya Nair for their t-shirt, banner, and pamphlet designs and freshwomen Amirilis Gutierrez, Ashley Johnson, Jeanine Alfaro, and our team's parents for all their dedication this season as well. All members of our team had a great time at the event!
The robot and our team's theme were modeled after Sister Jane Fritz, CSJ, and Edith Clarke. These women both shattered glass ceilings in the electrical engineering field and are an inspiration for our team to keep up the good work!
Congratulations to our robotics team for all their hard work this season!
Special thanks to their alum mentors: Kathy Rutherford, Tori Quan, Loriana Donovan, and Katherine Colin-Keta, and moderators: Mr. Kempski, Mr. Owens, and Mrs. K Lynch.
