TMLA Soph Wins Essay Contest

TMLA Sophomore Rose Reilly has been awarded a first place prize for an essay she submitted on the topic of respectful treatment of people with Autism and Developmental Disabilities.   The essay contest challenged students to discuss “How I Can Lead My School and Community to Become a Bully-Free Place for Individuals with Autism and Developmental Disabilities.”

Rose enjoys writing and especially likes to respond to a challenge.  In composing her winning essay, Rose used her own convictions about the topic combined with her knowledge about a middle school that engaged students with disabilities and students without such handicaps in an after-school gaming program where differences gave way to better understandings.

This essay is sponsored by Life’s WORC and The Family for Autism, with appreciation to The Claire Friedlander Family Foundation and the Queens Courier. The award will be given at a ceremony at headquarters in Garden City, NY.
