BSU Collects Blankets for Needy Neighbors

At the beginning of the school year, members of the Black Student Union decided that they would like to perform community-based activities that would have a positive, direct impact on their neighbors who are less fortunate.

Since TMLA has an existing relationship with Xavier Mission through the Service, Learning, and Leadership Program, Mikayla Traill who is current president of BSU reached out to Roxanne De La Torre, the Director of Outreach at Xavier Mission and TMLA alum. They discussed ways in which the BSU could help. Roxanne provided a list of necessities that could benefit the people that Xavier Mission serves.

The Blanket Drive is the first drive of the Black Student Union. All of the members stepped up to help with the collection and organization of the project that resulted in 41 blankets for needy neighbors. Other outreach they have done is raise money during Black History Month for Kailee Scales’s Pencils of Promise non-profit.

Thanks are due to Ms. Rogers and Mrs. O’Connor for their help and guidance with the BSU.
